CWCI Webinar on New WCAB Rules of Practice & Procedure Available On Demand

Oakland, CA – The California Workers’ Compensation Institute’s training webinar designed to introduce workers’ compensation claims and legal professionals to the new Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board Rules that took effect January 1 of this year has been recorded and is now available as an on-demand program.  The webinar, “The New WCAB Rules of Practice and Procedure: What You Need to Know Now,” was originally presented February 20 by CWCI General Counsel Ellen Sims Langille and Claims & Medical Director Jackie Secia, and is free for CWCI members, and $99 for nonmembers.  The program covers the myriad changes to the Rules of Practice and Procedure which affect nearly every aspect of workers’ compensation practice in the state, including:

♦ Parties ♦ Venue
♦ Representation ♦ Petitions (TD, §5710 fees, costs, credits)
♦ Applications and Answers ♦ Trials and Evidence
♦ Joinder ♦ Reconsideration / Removal / Disqualification
♦ Consolidation ♦ Service of Documents
♦ Medical-Legal Disputes ♦ Arbitration
♦ Hearings ♦ Liens

The new rules were formally adopted on December 31 with little fanfare and many practitioners are not familiar with them.  CWCI staff was involved in the regulatory process that led to the development of these rules and thoroughly reviewed the final rules that were adopted, so the webinar provides a comprehensive review and discussion of the approved regulations and the practical implications for claims and defense professionals in their approach to legal proceedings at the WCAB.

The webinar is a great way to receive training on the new Rules of Practice and Procedure without expensive travel or time out of the office, and the on-demand feature allows the program to be viewed in part or in total at the viewer’s convenience.  In addition to viewing the program, webinar registrants will receive a downloadable file containing the webinar slides.  The program has been approved for Minimum Continuing Legal Education credit by the State Bar of California in the amount of 1.5 hours, including 1.5 hours of Legal Specialization in Workers’ Compensation.  CWCI also will provide certificates of attendance upon completion of the program for submission to the Association of Hearing Representatives of California and for the verification of hours for those in need of credit for the California Department of Insurance workers’ compensation claims adjuster certification requirements.   Again, this webinar is free to employees of CWCI member companies, $99 for all others.
