The California Workers’ Compensation Institute has scheduled two one-day seminars for October in Long Beach and San Francisco to help workers’ compensation professionals gain a practical understanding of recent changes in workers’ compensation regulations, and to respond with appropriate claims and defense strategies.

The program will focus on the recently approved Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule, claim audit, and Qualified Medical Evaluator regulations – not only highlighting what’s new, but providing an in-depth discussion of the issues and problems that arise from the new regulations, and the options available for claims administrators, TPAs, attorneys, hearing reps, nurses and medical case managers who must work within the new regulatory framework. The Institute will present the seminar Tuesday, October 13 at The Grand Long Beach Event Center, and Tuesday, October 20 at Hotel Nikko, San Francisco.

The faculty includes defense attorney Richard Jacobsmeyer of Shaw, Jacobsmeyer, Crain, Claffey & Nix; Jacqueline Secia, a workers’ compensation claims and audit specialist with 30+ years experience as a claims manager, consultant and instructor for industry organizations and claims administrators; CWCI Claims and Medical Director Brenda Ramirez; and CWCI General Counsel Michael McClain.

CWCI is an approved continuing education provider for registered nurses (provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # CEP6150 for 5 contact hours) and a State Bar of California approved MCLE and Workers’ Comp Specialization provider (5 hours). CWCI also has applied for approval of 5 hours for CDMS (formerly CIRS) and CCM, and will provide certificates of attendance for submission to the Association of Hearing Representatives of California and for those seeking Department of Insurance claims adjuster or medical bill reviewer certification.
