CWCI Adds New Research Associates to Staff

April 14, 2014

The California Workers’ Compensation Institute has expanded its Research Department by hiring Stacy L. Jones and Steve Hayes as Senior Research Associates. The Oakland-based nonprofit serves as the research and educational arm of the California workers’ compensation industry.

Ms. Jones joins the Institute after having spent the last 15 years as an independent consultant working on projects for claims operations, information technology companies, medical clinics, law firms, as well as state and national insurer organizations including CWCI, the IAIABC, and the WCIRB. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from California State University Long Beach and a master’s degree in psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She is a recognized authority on workers’ compensation medical billing and payment issues, as well as various aspects of claim adjudication and management. Mr. Hayes holds a bachelor’s in biological sciences from U.C. Berkeley and a master’s in health services administration from the University of Michigan. He comes to CWCI after 11 years with Carewise Health (formerly SHPS HR Solutions Inc.) where he was Director of Analytics from 2009 to 2013, prior to which his positions included Director of Wellness Reporting & Performance Guarantees, Manager of Financial Reporting, and Senior Employee Benefits Consultant. In their new roles, Ms. Jones and Mr. Hayes will work with Institute President Alex Swedlow, Senior Vice-President of Research & Operations Rena David and Associate Research Director John Ireland on public policy and applied research projects; represent CWCI at various forums; and work with Institute staff, members and others in the community to expand data-related products and services using CWCI’s Industry Claims Information System database.

Ms. Jones can be contacted by emailing sljones@www.cwci.org, while Mr. Hayes can be contacted by emailing shayes@www.cwci.org, and both can be reached by calling the Institute at 510-251-9470.
