Reminder: DWC Annual Report Of Inventory Due April 1

Date: 02/20/2015

Heads up to California workers’ compensation claims administrators: the deadline for filing the Annual Report of Workers’ Compensation Claims Inventory (ARI) is Wednesday, April 1. Under CCR §10104, insurers, TPAs and self-administered, self-insured employers and JPAs must complete an annual report form for the preceding calendar year for each adjusting location and submit it to the DWC Audit Unit. An inventory must be filed for each adjusting location, even if that location had no claims reported to it in the prior year, and regardless of whether it received an inventory form from the Division. Failure to submit the report by April 1 may result in penalties of up to $500 per adjusting location.

The state’s electronic data reporting regulation [CCR 9702 (i)(3), www.dir.ca.gov/t8/9702.html] does provide that the obligation to submit the ARI can be waived if the DWC Administrative Director determines that the claim administrator has demonstrated the capability to submit complete, valid and accurate data via the Workers’ Compensation Information System (WCIS). Even if the AD has waived your ARI requirement, however, you still must provide the state with a list of your adjusting location operations as of December 31, 2014. As with the ARI, this year’s deadline for filing your Annual Report of Adjusting Locations is Wednesday, April 1. If you need to revise any information reported in the ARI or Annual Report of Adjusting Locations, those changes must be made within 45 days of the effective date of the change.

A DIR memo with details, instructions and the 2-part inventory form (Form DWC-851, Rev. 1-2015), is posted at Click here. Questions about submission of these reports should be directed to:
