Member Alert: 2017 Adjuster/Medical Bill Reviewer Certification (WCAC) Data Call Deadlines
The California Department of Insurance (CDI) has notified the Institute that it plans to issue the attached Workers’ Comp Adjuster Certification (2017 WCAC) Data Call for claims adjuster and medical bill reviewer data, pursuant to California Insurance Code §11761 and CCR, Title 10, §§2592 – 2592.08, today (Friday, April 21). The Data Call includes instructions on retrieving the reporting materials from the internet and submitting the data. Please note that the WCAC “Acknowledgement of Receipt Form” is due by Friday, May 19.
For insurance companies admitted to transact workers’ compensation insurance in California, this year’s deadline to submit a completed Data Workbook to certify their adjusters and/or medical bill reviewers is Friday, July 7. Self-insured employers and TPAs should not report using the CDI’s 2017 WCAC data workbook, but instead should continue to use the forms prescribed in the regulations CCR Title 10, Chapter 5, Subchapter 3, Sections 2592 – 2592.08.
After you determine your company’s reporting status, download the required forms to a local drive, complete each form, and submit them via the document upload program on the CDI website. (Note: you will not be able to complete the forms directly from the CDI website.) Step-by-step instructions for completing and submitting the forms are in the attached Statistical Plan. There are no significant changes from the 2016 plan; unless the CDI has required a change in your company’s reporting methods, you should use the same reporting methods as last year.
Copies of the Acknowledgement of Receipt Form, WCAC 2017 Circular, Data Collection Workbook, and WCAC 2017 Statistical Plan are attached. If you have additional issues or questions after reviewing the information in these materials, please refer to the contacts listed in the Statistical Plan.
For the 2017 Reporting period, you should report your experience as of June 30, 2017. If you have staff members who need additional continuing education units, CWCI will conduct its 19th annual California Workers’ Compensation Case Law Update Seminar on May 15th in San Francisco and May 17 in Long Beach, which will provide 5 hours of credit toward the CDI requirements. A seminar flyer is attached. You can get more information or register at www.cwci.org/conferences.html.
