DOI Issues Delayed 2020 WCAC Data Call, Submission Deadline Extensions Must Be Requested
The California Department of Insurance today issued formal notice to all insurers admitted to transact workers’ compensation insurance in the state advising them of their 2020 workers’ compensation adjuster certification and medical bill review data (WCAC-2020) reporting obligations. This annual report is required under Ins. Code §11761 and CCR, Title 10, Chapter 5, Subchapter 3, §§2592–2592.08.
Although the data call was issued about a month later than usual due to the COVID-19 situation, the announced submission deadlines were not extended. According to the data call, insurers must return the WCAC-2020 Acknowledgement of Receipt Form no later than June 12; while the WCAC-2020 Data Workbook is due no later than July 6, 2020. However, CWCI contacted WCAC Data Call Team Leader Fernando De La Merced who advised us that while the deadline for submitting the Acknowledgment of Receipt Form remains June 12, he will allow companies that email an extension request to him at Fernando.DeLaMerced@insurance.ca.gov an additional 10 days (to July 16) to submit the Data Workbook. The deadline to request an extension is June 26.
A circular letter attached to the notice, which was issued via email, includes more details and reporting instructions, as well as information on how insurers can retrieve the required reporting materials from the internet. CWCI has posted the letter here. Anyone with additional questions on the 2020 WCAC may contact Mr. De La Merced via email.
