CWCI Sponsors Roundtable on Opioid Abuse In WC at NASI Annual Conference
CWCI has been an active member of the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) for several years, and CWCI Executive Vice-President of Research Alex Swedlow is a member of the Study Panel on Workers’ Compensation Data, which contributes to NASI’s annual publication "Workers’ Compensation: Benefits, Coverage, and Costs."
Last year, the Study Panel became interested in the opioid issue and CWCI provided our inventory of research studies for internal discussions, which raised awareness and an interest in becoming active in the national debate over opioid use in workers’ compensation. Toward that end, this year the Institute agreed to sponsor a roundtable discussion on the topic, "Opioid Abuse in Workers’ Compensation" on the second day of NASI’s Annual Conference in Washington D.C. The roundtable is scheduled for Friday, February 1st from 9:15-10:30 a.m. at the National Press Club, 529 14th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. Allan Hunt of the Upjohn Institute will chair the roundtable, and in addition to Alex, featured speakers will include Allard Dembe of Ohio State University and Gary Franklin of Washington State Department of Labor and Industries.
The roundtable on Opioid Abuse in Workers’ Compensation is open to NASI members as well as the general public. CWCI is the sponsor for this event, so even if you are not registered for the NASI Conference, you or another representative of your company can still attend the roundtable session at no charge. To assure adequate seating, however, please RSVP via the link below.
