CWCI in the News: Increase in Drug Testing Has Not Reduced WC Opioid Use

Date: 02/04/2015

This week’s Risk and Insurance magazine includes a feature article by senior editor Roberto Ceniceros which is based on an interview with CWCI President Alex Swedlow. The article spotlights the twin issues of questionable drug testing and opioid use in workers’ compensation, and references CWCI data that will be released in an upcoming report and discussed at our Annual Meeting on March 19, noting the disconnect between the rapid growth in drug testing and the continued high rate of opioid use in workers’ compensation claims.

In addition to hitting the wire services, the article has created a buzz in social media, as it was featured this morning as the lead discussion in LinkedIn’s Workers’Compensation & Healthcare Transformation Council blog.
