2025 Case Law Seminar: Registration Notice

Date: 06/05/2025

CWCI is pleased to announce that our 27th annual California Workers’ Compensation Case Law Update program will be held as a live, online broadcast on Tuesday, September 9 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

CWCI’s annual case law seminar is the longest running program of its type in the industry and provides the most comprehensive review of the last year in decisional law. The full-day program will review recent court decisions and provide insight into appropriate negotiation and defense strategies for claims personnel, attorneys, hearing reps, and other industry professionals. Many attendees return year after year to keep up to date on judicial precedent that affects how they do their jobs every day.

CWCI’s Senior VP of Claims and General Counsel Sara Widener-Brightwell is overseeing the development of the program and will moderate the session, which will again feature veteran defense attorneys Richard Jacobsmeyer, James W. Jones, and Randy Pollak, as well as applicants’ attorney Lisa Ivancich. Our panelists will offer real-world, practical insights from both defense and applicant perspectives. In addition to providing updates on recent rulings, the speakers will identify issues related to statutory and regulatory changes, examine old case law to see what still applies and what does not, and offer attendees a fresh look at the impact of case law.

Seminar Features:

  • The seminar will include a full audio-visual presentation identifying important case details, factual backgrounds, and other highlights for every case on the agenda. All attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists during morning and afternoon Q&A sessions.
  • One week prior to the seminar, registrants will be given a link to download or print the complete electronic version of the course materials (including hyperlinks to the actual decisions).
  • CWCI has received certification to offer 5.0 hours of MCLE credits, including 5.0 hours of Workers’ Compensation Specialization credits, from the State Bar of California for this program. We will also provide certificates of attendance for submission to the Association of Hearing Representatives of California and for verification of hours for those in need of credit for the Department of Insurance workers’ compensation claims adjuster certification requirements. Attendees must be fully registered at least two days prior to the session in order to receive MCLE / CE credits.  Participation will be tracked electronically for compliance.

The cost, including all electronic seminar materials and 5.0 hours of MCLE/CE credits, is $399 with a $100 discount available to employees of CWCI member companies. To register online, click here or call Mel Long at CWCI, 510-251-9470.
