2023 Case Law Seminar: Registration Notice
CWCI is pleased to announce that our 25th annual California Workers’ Compensation Case Law Seminar has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 23 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The 2023 program will be held as an in-person session at the OCC Conference Center, 500 12th Street, Suite 105, Oakland CA 94607 and simultaneously presented as a live, online video broadcast. The Conference Center is adjacent to 12th Street BART, on the upper level of the Oakland City Center complex. To ensure adequate space for social distancing, the number of in-person seats is limited, and they are available on a first-come / first-served basis, so those wishing to attend in person should register early.
CWCI’s annual case law seminar is the longest running program of its type in the industry and provides the most comprehensive review of the last year in decisional law. The full-day program will review recent court decisions and provide insight into appropriate negotiation and defense strategies for claims personnel, attorneys, hearing reps, and other industry professionals. Many attendees return year after year in order to keep up to date on judicial precedent that affects how they do their jobs every day. CWCI General Counsel Sara Widener-Brightwell will moderate the program, which will again feature veteran defense attorneys Richard Jacobsmeyer and Trisha O’Neal, who for the first time will be joined by seasoned defense attorney Randy Pollak and applicants’ attorney Lisa Ivancich. Our panelists will offer real-world, practical insights from both defense and applicant perspectives. In addition to providing updates on recent rulings, the speakers will identify issues related to statutory and regulatory changes, examine old case law to see what still applies and what does not, and offer attendees a fresh look at the impact of case law.
Seminar Features:
- The seminar will include a full audio-visual presentation identifying important case details, factual backgrounds, and other highlights for every case on the agenda. All attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists during morning and afternoon Q&A sessions.
- One week prior to the seminar, registrants will be given a link to download or print the complete electronic version of the course materials (including hyperlinks to the actual decisions). Registrants may also order a pre-printed copy of the course materials at a nominal charge.
- CWCI has received certification to offer 5.0 hours of MCLE credits, including 5.0 hours of Workers’ Compensation Specialization credits, from the State Bar of California for this program. We will also provide certificates of attendance for submission to the Association of Hearing Representatives of California and for verification of hours for those in need of credit for Department of Insurance workers’ compensation claims adjuster certification requirements.
