2019 Case Law Seminars: Registration Notice

Date: 02/11/2019

CWCI has scheduled its 21st annual California Workers’ Compensation case law seminar in May in San Francisco and Long Beach.  The full-day program will review recent court decisions and provide insight into appropriate negotiation and defense strategies for claims personnel, attorneys, hearing reps, and other industry professionals.  The program is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the following locations:

Tuesday, May 7                  The Grand Long Beach Event Center

Thursday, May 9                Hotel Nikko San Francisco

CWCI’s annual case law seminar is the longest running program of its type in the industry.  Many attendees return year after year, in order to keep up-to-date on judicial precedent that affects how they do their jobs every day.  CWCI General Counsel Ellen Sims Langille will moderate this year’s program, which will feature veteran defense attorneys Saul Allweiss and Richard Jacobsmeyer, as well as applicant attorney Elizabeth Hudson, who debuted last year.  The three panelists will offer real-world, practical insight from both the defense viewpoint and an applicant’s attorney perspective.  In addition to providing updates on recent rulings, the speakers will identify issues related to statutory and regulatory changes, examine old case law to see what still applies and what does not, and offer attendees a fresh look at the impact of case law.

Seminar Features:

  • The seminar will include a full audio-visual presentation identifying important case details, factual backgrounds, and other highlights for every case on the agenda.  The program materials will also include links to actual decisions.
  • One week prior to the seminar, registrants will be given a link to the complete electronic version of the course materials (including hyperlinks to the actual decisions) to be downloaded to a laptop or printed out in advance.  Attendees may also pre-order a bound copy of the course materials at a nominal cost.
  • CWCI has received certification to offer 5.0 hours of Legal Specialization MCLE credits from the State Bar of California for this program, and upon completion of the seminar the Institute will provide certificates of attendance for submission to the Association of Hearing Representatives of California and for verification of hours for those in need of credit for Department of Insurance workers’ compensation claims adjuster certification requirements.

The cost of the seminar, including course materials, morning coffee service, lunch, and an afternoon refreshment break, is $399, with a $100 discount available to employees of CWCI member companies.  To register online, click here then scroll down to Case Law Seminar XXI and choose either the Long Beach or San Francisco session.  To download the seminar flyer with details and a registration form, click here.  If you have questions about the program, please call Fran Perry at 510-251-9470.
