2009 Case Law Seminars: Registration Notice

Date: 02/09/2009

The Institute has finalized plans for the 2009 California workers’ compensation case law seminars, the latest in the Institute’s successful case law seminar series initiated 11 years ago. The 1-day program will review recent judicial decisions and how they are affecting – or may affect – key elements of reform. Included in this year’s program will be discussions of Costa III and the just-released WCAB en banc decisions (Ogilvie & Almaraz/ Guzman) which open the door for PDRS rebuttals; the repeal of vocational rehabilitation; and topics related to apportionment (the Wilkinson Doctrine, burden of proof, proving a prior award, etc.). The goal is to provide claims and legal personnel an update on recent case law so they can work together to develop appropriate defense and negotiation strategies.

The program will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the following locations:

Monday, May 4  The Grand Long Beach Event Center
Wednesday, May 6  Hotel Nikko, San Francisco

The case law seminar is designed for claims administrators, attorneys, hearing reps, and others with negotiating authority. Continuing education units will be available for attorneys, as CWCI is a state bar of California approved MCLE provider (5 hours). CWCI also will provide certificates of attendance for those seeking credit toward the Department of Insurance workers’ compensation claim administrator and bill reviewer certification requirements and for submission to the Association of Hearing Reps of California.

Registration: Pre-registration and pre-payment are required, and CWCI member company employees receive a $100 discount. Registrations will be accepted in the order in which the form with payment is received, so register early. Check-in and continuing education unit sign-ups begin at 8 a.m. and the seminar will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and adjourn by 3:30 p.m. The attached flyer includes further details and a registration form, or you can register online by clicking the seminar button on our home page, www.cwci.org.
