Employer costs for workers' compensation in the U.S. declined 2.7 percent in 2007, even though the number of covered workers edged up 1.1 percent, covered payroll increased 5.6 percent and benefit payments rose 2.0 percent, according to recent data from the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI).
