A CWCI study shows avg California workers' comp prescription payments fell 9.6% following adoption of the pharmacy fee schedule mandated by the 2002 reforms. Savings were less than initial estimates as the proportion of pharmacy dollars paying for brand-name drugs increased and there was a shift toward the use of repackaged drugs dispensed in physician offices rather than pharmacies. Despite the lower fees, injured worker access to pharmacies that fill workers' comp prescriptions improved.
