After adjusting for inflation and changes in case mix, allowable payments for physician services in California workers' comp following fee schedule review fell an average of 5.9% from 2002 to 2004, while average payments per procedure fell 4.4%, though the changes in allowed and paid amounts varied by fee schedule section according to a new Institute study.
