CWCI's Score Card on degenerative, infective or metabolic joint disorders ("joint pain") shows these diagnoses account for 3% of California job injuries, but almost 6% of workers' comp payments, as treatment of the injuries relies heavily on radiology, PT and surgery, and a quarter of them result in permanent disability – twice the proportion for all work injuries.
