California's statewide work injury and illness rate hit another record low in 2008, but in an ominous sign for public sector employers, the rate of reported injuries among state and local government workers bucked the statewide trend and rose for the first time in years in 2008, led by a 1-year increase of 16% in the work injury and illness rate for local government workers.
