CWCI 59th Annual Meeting Now Available to Members On-Demand

Date: 04/03/2023

Oakland, CA – On March 8, CWCI presented its 59th Annual Meeting as a live event.  The meeting featured a comprehensive agenda on the intersections between the California economy, demographics, potential reform activity, system dynamics and outcomes.  The Institute recorded the  program and is now pleased to offer it to our members as a free, on-demand webinar.

The program features four sessions presented by our guest speakers and CWCI staff, including:

  • Making Sense of the California Economy (57 minutes): Sarah Bohn, Vice-President of Research and Senior Fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California, examines California’s evolving economy and ongoing changes in the state’s industries and workforce, while WCIRB Executive Vice-President and Chief Actuary addresses the intersection of the changing California economy and workers’ compensation rates.

  • CWCI Research Update (73 minutes): CWCI Senior Vice-President of Research and Operations Rena David and President Alex Swedlow review new research on issues that are likely to be reform targets in 2023, including managed care, cumulative trauma, and medical dispute resolution and Independent Medical Review.

  • California’s Dynamic Population (38 minutes): Sarah Bohn and Alex Swedlow discuss demographic shifts that are occurring in the state, including the long-term impact of recent migration trends.

  • California’s Political and Legislative Update (58 minutes): Jason Schmelzer, Legislative Advocate and Partner at Shaw, Yoder, Antwih, Schmelzer & Lange, and CWCI General Counsel Sara Widener-Brightwell provide insights on the current political environment in Sacramento, as well as the workers’ compensation issues and key players who will be involved in 2023 reforms.

The program will be accessible via the Institute’s website for the next month, and the on-demand feature will allow all members to view the program either in part or in total at their convenience.  All CWCI member employees who register will be sent log-in instructions for the webinar and a link to the electronic version of the meeting materials which they can download to a laptop or print out prior to viewing the program.
