IRIS Regional Scorecard Interactive Tool

Date: 10/11/2017

CWCI is pleased to announce the release of our latest interactive tool, designed to provide our members with an online application that can be used to examine and compare industrywide data on key metrics by region.  The IRIS Regional Scorecard Application uses California workers’ comp claims data from accident years 2007 through 2016, derived from our Industry Research Information System (IRIS) database.

Available to CWCI members who log on to our website, the application can be used to access regional and statewide data on 19 key metrics, compare the results from eight different regions, and identify regional and statewide trends that have developed.  The interactive feature allows users to select the metrics they would like to include in their customized views.  Once the metrics are selected, the results will automatically display in the accompanying tables and graphics.

Metrics Available in the Application

Data are available for open and closed claims from all accident years.  Simply switch the selections in the global settings and the drop down menus to create custom views of the regional data.  Results for each  region are color coded.  The Claim Status box allows users to view results for indemnity claims or for all claims; the Industry box provides a selection of data from eight major industry sectors; and the Accident Year box allows the data to be broken out for one or more of the 10 most recent accident years.

How to Access the Application

To access the Regional Scorecard Interactive Research Report and the interactive tool, log on to our website (www.cwci.org) with your user name and password.  (If you haven’t set up a member account, select “Your Account” at the top of the home page, click “Add me as a Member User” from the pull-down menu, complete the form, then use the information to log in).  Once you are logged on, click Research and scroll down to “IRIS Regional Scorecard Interactive Tool.”  Here you will have two buttons:

  • Click the “Full Report” button for the 4-page report detailing the metrics included and selections available in the application, notes on how to use the tool, screenshots showing how the information will display, and the data and methods used to compile the data; or
  • Click the “Interactive Data” button, which will open the application. The application contains a dashboard with four exhibits that will change as different metrics are selected, plus a data and methods section, which can be accessed from a tab at the top of the screen.

The Regional Scorecard Interactive Research application is part of our ongoing effort to provide members with analytical tools that allow a more comprehensive, interactive experience based on CWCI research. The next application will provide detailed data on the utilization and cost of prescription drugs in California workers’ compensation.  If you or your staff have questions or would like assistance in accessing or using our interactive tools, please call the Institute at 510-251-9470.
