CWCI Posts Program on New WCAB Rules as an On-Demand Webinar

Date: 02/24/2020

To help workers’ compensation claims and legal professionals get up to speed on the changes to the new WCAB Rules of Practice and Procedure that took effect January 1, this week the Institute conducted a live webinar to review these changes and the practical implications for claims and defense professionals in their approach to legal proceedings at the WCAB.  The webinar, “The New WCAB Rules of Practice and Procedure: What You Need to Know Now,” was presented by CWCI General Counsel Ellen Sims Langille and Claims & Medical Director Jackie Secia, and was free to CWCI member company employees, $99 for nonmembers.

Not everyone who wanted to attend the live program was available when it was presented on February 20, so CWCI recorded the session for those who were unable to attend and for anyone else who may be interested in the new rules.  The Institute is now offering the recorded program as an on-demand webinar, and once again, it is free for CWCI members, and $99 for nonmembers.  The program runs for about 90 minutes and covers the myriad changes to the Rules of Practice and Procedure which affect nearly every aspect of workers’ compensation practice in the state, including:

♦ Parties ♦ Venue
♦ Representation ♦ Petitions (TD, §5710 fees, costs, credits)
♦ Applications and Answers ♦ Trials and Evidence
♦ Joinder ♦ Reconsideration / Removal / Disqualification
♦ Consolidation ♦ Service of Documents
♦ Medical-Legal Disputes ♦ Arbitration
♦ Hearings ♦ Liens

The webinar is a great way to train staff on the new WCAB Rules of Practice and Procedure without expensive travel or time out of the office, and the on-demand feature allows the program to be viewed in part, or in total, at the viewer’s convenience.  In addition, on-demand webinar registrants also will receive a downloadable file of the slides used during the program.  The program has been approved for Minimum Continuing Legal Education credit by the State Bar of California in the amount of 1.5 hours, including 1.5 hours of Legal Specialization in Workers’ Compensation, and CWCI will provide certificates of attendance upon completion of the program for submission to the Association of Hearing Representatives of California and for the verification of hours for those in need of credit for the California Department of Insurance workers’ compensation claims adjuster certification requirements.
